This Japanese Maple tree and underground root system is drawn with the chemical conversation between mycelium and trees that form and maintain their sybmiotic mycorrhizal relationship. This relationship is the foundation of all life on earth, providing fungus and plants the ability to share resources that the others lack; with plants providing sugars they produce through photosynthesis and fungi providing improved access to water and essential nutrients like phosphorous and nitrogen. I've also included chemical messages and nutrients that are shared with other trees in the network, improving the overall health of a diverse ecosystem by sharing resources along a gradient of need.
