About
Scientific Illustrations by Sienna Cenere
Driven by insatiable curiosity, Sienna’s work reveals the unseen world hiding beneath the surface by illustrating her subjects with the fundamental forces and chemical reactions that govern their biological processes.
Sienna is a scientific artist and student of Biology, creating intricate illustrations of the natural world through the lens of science. Each piece is hand drawn with thousands of tiny numbers and equations, which are pulled from months of research, and take 50-100 hours to draw. The selected data celebrates the beauty of biology by revealing the hidden functions of our bodies and the world we live in through chemical reactions, physics, historical record and calculations. By combining scientific research with stirring figurative numberism drawings, Sienna’s work reconnects viewers to their childlike wonder of the world.
Sienna was self-taught in science and art until 2020 when she returned to school to pursue a Bs in Biology at Portland State University where she has reinforced the foundation of her work and purpose.
She has collaborated with scientists and educators in interdisciplinary sci-art lectures, presentations and publications both nationally and internationally, and is dedicated to using these collaborations to connect the general public to a rich relationship with the scientific world.
