Collaborators

I often work with teachers, scientists, students and fellow creatives in the research part of my creative process. Below is a short list of some of the incredible people I have been lucky enough to work with. Click the links to learn more about them and to see the artwork they inspired.

If you would like to work with me on a piece, please feel free to reach out at art.sienna@gmail.com. When you contribute to a piece scientifically you automatically get a free print!

dR. Brittany ALperin

Cognitive and clinical science teacher and research scientist.

Dr. Alperin and I created an interdisciplinary sci-art project on the impact of a mindfulness practice on depression. Dr. Alperin recorded EEG readings of my brain before and after an 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction intervention and found an 80% improvement in my alpha asymmetry score. We shared our findings at a series of presentations with NW Noggin and the Ford Gallery where I released “Breathe”, an original numberism drawing I created based on our work. This piece is drawn with data pulled from our project and inspired by the EEG readings.

See the artwork Sienna created based off this collaboration here.

Read NW Noggin’s recap of two of the lectures here and here.

Dr. Keith Siew

I have worked with Dr. Siew on several projects, beginning in 2017 when he asked me to write an article on my creative process for an issue of Physiology News Magazine.

Most recently, Dr Siew shared his extensive knowledge of the kidney for the creation of my etching of “Labyrinth”. This collaboration spanned three months time and occurred over video, email and chat.

In 2017 Dr. Siew trained me in non toxic tissue staining.

See “Labyrinth” here. Watch a video of me explaining and drawing it here.

More about Dr. Siew:

He is studying how space affects kidneys. Read more about his work here

Jan Just phd

Just provided foundational knowledge of kidney function for the creation of the original engraving of “Labyrinth”. She shared class material on urinary function and offered guidance on kidney histology.

Brianna Ross

BS Enviornmental Science

Brianna has recently collaborated with me as a research assistant for my series on the anatomical foot.

See the artwork I created based on our collaborative research: “Plantar”, “Tendu, “Stride”, and “Dorsal”

She was also the model for two drawings, including “Forest Bathing” and “Stride”.

Richard Malena

Game and puzzle designer.

Richard and I designed a complex series of puzzles for my numbersim drawing “The Game is Afoot”.

This piece took 14 months of research, game design, game testing and drawing to create. The resulting puzzle was drawn with over a dozen puzzles, riddles, ciphers and codes. No one has solved the puzzle in its entirely.

Game is Afoot Puzzle testers

Several people graciously leant their time, energy and big beautiful brains to test the puzzles in Game is Afoot.

Thank you to Clove Wright, Lillian Olney, Heather DeWig and Michael Geisel.
